Primary and Secondary DNS

Corserv can run primary or secondary domain name servers for your domain. The InterNIC requires that domain name registrants have at least two internet servers at different IP addresses to provide name resolution. The purpose of having at least two servers per domain ensures that should one of the DNS servers go down or become unreachable, connectivity to the domain is still possible.

When secondary DNS is combined with backup mail relay services, a domain is much more stable because in the event that the primary DNS and/or mailserver go down, the secondary DNS and backup mail server that Corserv can provide continues to answer DNS queries and receive email. When the primary mail server comes back online, all email that was stored on the backup mail server is forwarded to the primary mail server. Corserv runs BIND for all domain name services.

Secondary DNS and backup mail servers are major components that enable mission critical data systems. Corserv can also register domains, if desired.

You can contact us to start your DNS services. A Corserv network engineer will then contact you to obtain the necessary data from you to begin serving your secondary or primary dns. Typically we just need to know what domain, hostname, and ip address you wish serviced.
