Backup E-mail Relay Storage Services

Corserv can run secondary email servers for your domain. Having at least two servers per domain ensures that should the primary email server go down or become unreachable, email connectivity to the domain is still possible. In addition, critical emails are forwarded immediately to the primary mail server as soon as its connectivity is restored.

With backup mail relay services, domain email is much more stable because in the event that the primary mail server goes down (or otherwise looses net connectivity), the secondary backup mail server that Corserv runs can continue to receive email. When the primary mail server comes back online, all email that was stored on the backup mail server is forwarded to the primary mail server. Corserv runs the industrial strength sendmail software as the email Mail Transport Agent (MTA).

Secondary DNS and backup mail servers are major components that enable mission critical internet systems to maintain operation during localized outages. With Corserv secondary systems, there is no reason to "put all of your eggs in one basket" anymore.

Configuration of backup email servers

Configuration of backup mail servers is easily accomplished by the customer by simply adding an MX record in his DNS files for the domain. The MX record will point to Corserv's server responsible for relaying mail to the primary MX in the event of primary MX failure. Once the MX record on the customer side is entered, Corserv will update the relevant server configuration to allow for storage and relaying of email to the primary MX holder. It should be noted that if a secondary DNS record is at the same IP block as the primary MX or primary DNS server for the domain, then it is recommended that the customer also have a secondary DNS in a different address block because if the DNS goes down, even secondary MX records will not be resolved. Corserv can provide secondary DNS if desired.

You can contact us now for backup email services. A Corserv network engineer will then contact you to obtain the necessary data from you to begin serving as your secondary MX. Typically we just need to know what domain, hostname, and ip address you wish serviced
